What is the best laptop to play MS-DOS games on? The answer to that question is simple. That is…
.. the Compaq LTE 5000.
I can’t even remember when or where I bought this laptop, but I took it on a family trip recently because I wanted something to play around with. After reading a bit more into the specifics of this machine I came to the conclusion:
This is the best MS-DOS laptop. Ever.
(Okay, okay, hear me out)
Here are the specs:
- CPU: Pentium 75
- Memory: 16Mb
- Cache: 256Kb
- HDD: 4Gb (IDE2CF adapter)
- Screen: 640×480 active matrix
- Ports: PS2, IR, serial, parallel, VGA
The screen in particular is important. First off all it’s an active matrix display, which is superior to passive matrix displays. Second is the resolution of 640×480 pixels. This is perfect for full screen DOS gaming. No scaling, no borders.
